Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini and Melissa Satta break up came as a shocker to a majority of tennis fans.
The two lovebirds cited a lot of ‘intense situations’ as one of the reasons for splitting despite inspiring many people with their commitment to each other in the past.
Berrettini, 27, has had trying times since he went public about dating the Italian model and TV personality. There were worries about potential distractions for the star when the tennis player and Satta were first photographed together in January 2023.
Satta had a reputation in some Italian media circles as a good enough distraction and was even nicknamed the ‘man-eater’.
During a difficult 2023 campaign, Berrettini was forced to make multiple requests for seclusion and said that his ongoing physical problems had caused him to battle despair.

In announcing their separation, Berrettini said he enjoyed the time he spent with Satta but they are no longer together.
“Melissa Satta and I are no longer together. What I can say is that we had a beautiful, intense relationship and we have great respect for each other,” he said.
He, however, declined to give substantive reasons as to why they broke up only saying that it was intense.
“I won’t go beyond this, I don’t like sharing my private life too much. Nothing special happened. I must thank her for this period we lived together very intensely despite all the difficulties.”
What Did Melissa Satta Say About Dating Matteo Berrettini?
She, in the past, opened up on her love for Berrettini and even called out a section of the media trolling her for her boyfriend’s injuries.
Satta told off her critics who were spreading the notion that Berrettini’s stomach aches were brought on by excessive bedroom activities. The 37-year-old Italian model and TV presenter told Vanity Fair that she is often the victim of bullying because of her romantic relationships.
On the contrary, she pointed out that following an injury in 2021, Berrettini sustained an abdominal issue. The two weren’t dating at the time so she is void of any blame.
“[The injury Berrettini has] is an injury in the same place as the one in 2021, when I didn’t know him. But in any case – do I really have to answer to these people? It was something that had been going on for months when our story became known in January,” she told Vanity Fair in an interview.

The former lovebirds met in Miami for the first time in 2022 and exchanged contact. Satta was lonely for a while after divorcing retired Ghanaian international footballer Kevin Prince Boateng.
“[We met] in Miami, at a dinner with mutual friends. We talked to each other, we exchanged phone numbers, and we started talking from there. The next day, we were both leaving. My life is in Milan, he lives in Monte Carlo. A thousand chats on WhatsApp. Which never ended. I’ve met people at dinner and exchanged numbers, but often it ends as it began. Not with Matteo: if we are still here it is because then we managed to meet… In various cities,” she recalls.
Although they are now separated, her best moments were spending time with Berrettini, going out to dinner, participating in karaoke, and relaxing at home on the weekends.
She enjoys that she continues to work even while they are together and he is working out at his house gym. And once he’s finished, they both like spending the evenings watching a movie.
But she always knew that dating Berrettini entailed carrying around the burden of constant criticism. Satta acknowledged that she always knew that if the man she was dating got hurt, she would be criticized.
