  • Kylian Mbappe recently informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that he will not be staying at the club next season
  • Mbappe’s destination in the summer is likely to be Real Madrid
  • While PSG would have loved to keep Mbappe at the club, he has decided to continue his career elsewhere

On Thursday, February 15, several reputable sources reported that Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) he will not be staying at the club next season.

Mbappe, 25, joined PSG in 2017 and after seven seasons, the move that everyone has been waiting for is finally close to happening. The 2018 World Cup winner will be joining European giants Real Madrid this coming summer transfer window as a free agent.

While PSG would have loved to keep Mbappe at the club, he has decided to continue his career elsewhere. SportsLeo takes a look at three things that will happen if Kylian Mbappe’s dream move to Real Madrid finally materializes this year.

1. Significant Salary Cut

Kylian Mbappe is currently one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, with an annual salary of €72 million. If he really wants to realize his dream and join Real Madrid this summer, he will have to scale down his financial demands as the Los Blancos are offering a lower salary compared to PSG.

According to Flashscore, Real Madrid are not willing to offer Mbappe anything more than €25 million, including bonuses. The club’s president Florentino Perez made it clear that he will not cause chaos in the dressing room by offering the ‘superstars’ far much bigger salaries than the other players in the team.

This means that Mbappe’s salary will put him on par with other players at Real Madrid such as Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham. As a result, there will be no room for egos in the dressing room and he will not be in control as he is at PSG where he has been placed at sporting director level.

2. A Record Bonus

Whilst Real Madrid will acquire Mbappe as a free agent in the summer of 2024, it won’t be easy as it looks from outside. According to sources, Real Madrid will pay a record signing bonus to Mbappe, with the amount expected to reach a whopping €120 million.

On top of that, sources report that Real Madrid will also give Mbappe 60 per cent of his image rights and keep the other 40 per cent with them. Usually, the Los Blancos claims 50 per cent of its players’ image rights.

3. Champions League And Ballon d’Or Finally?

Mbappe’s dream has always been to win the UEFA Champions League, which has been elusive for him over the years despite playing alongside top players such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Sergio Ramos, who have all won it before.

Real Madrid have won the Champions League 14 times, and Mbappe joining the Spanish club offers him the opportunity to finally become a European champion as the Los Blancos currently have the best generation of young players who could dominate Europe for years. Mbappe was very close to triumph in 2020 when PSG reached the finals, only to lose 1-0 to Bayern Munich courtesy of Kingsley Coman’s goal.

How about the Ballon d’Or? Well, we can all agree that Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid does not only increase his chances of winning the Champions League but also the Ballon d’Or. Mbappe has always been close but still far from winning the Golden Ball, mainly due to lack of the UEFA Champions League in his trophy cabinet at the end of every season.

Conclusion

Kylian Mbappe’s arrival in the Spanish capital will delight football fans who have always wanted to see the move happen. The World Cup winner had the opportunity to join Real Madrid in 2017 but he turned the offer down and opted to play for home club PSG. While Real Madrid’s attempt to acquire him over the past years have been futile, everything now points to his arrival being a reality from July 1.
