Hugo Broos is a former Belgian footballer who played as a central defender and is the current coach of the South African national football team and his career journey is that of resilience from humble beginnings to a coaching legend.
During his playing years, he played for several clubs in Belgium including Anderlecht, Club Brugge and R.W.D. Molenbeek also had a brief spell with Greek club Panserraikos. In his playing career, the then-central defender won several accolades.
He won the Belgian First Division title three times with Anderlecht and once with Club Brugge, also won the Belgian Cup twice with Anderlecht. Internationally, he represented the Belgian national team for six years and was part of the Belgian team that competed at the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
Broos retired from playing professional football and began his coaching career with R.W.D Molenbeek and has since coached several clubs in Belgium, Greece, Turkey and the United Arabs before landing his current managerial job with the South Africa national team.

The manager was born in Humbeek, Belgium on April 10 1952. His career started with a local club KFC Humbeek and his talent didn’t go unnoticed as he was spotted by RSC Anderlecht who launched his professional career.

Since then, he played for several clubs in Belgium and Greece before embarking on his managerial career. He’s married and they have two children with his spouse. Beyond football, he enjoys playing golf.
