Reports have emerged suggesting that FIFA and 2K are working together to develop a new football game. Although not confirmed, the info was shared by a reliable leaker who has good track record of correctly predicting upcoming games.

The idea of FIFA and 2K working together is not a novelty as it already surfaced two years ago following the public fallout between the football federation and EA Sports. FIFA and EA ended their partnership in May 2022 when negotiations of a new deal “hit the wall” because FIFA demanded double the money it was receiving from the existing deal.

Following the divorce that made headlines in the gaming world, EA confirmed that they would release their own football game in the form of EA Sports FC, and they already did so with the first version of the game being a success to the company.

FIFA also promised to release their game, with President Gianni Infantino assuring fans that the game will be the best ever.

“The new FIFA game – the FIFA 252627 and so on – will always be the best egame for any girl or boy. We will have news on this very soon. The only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in early 2023, as per NME Gaming.

While we are yet to see FIFA’s game, the rumours going around could mean that the game could actually be in its early stages of development.

According to former EA Sports community manager, ChuBoi, several ex-FIFA gameplay developers have joined 2K and the game could be launched aligning with the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Who Are 2K?

2K is an American video game publisher based in Novato, California, founded as a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The company has received great praise for their career modes in both the NBA and WWE games over the years.

2K is also the publisher of the famous PGA Tour Games and have previously expressed their interest in working with FIFA. Speaking during an interview back in 2022, 2K CEO Stauss Zelnick discussed the idea of producing FIFA games.

“We’re definitely interested in expanding our opportunities in sports, and FIFA has a great brand and incredible clout, but we have no current plans to discuss.” He told IGN, as per Daily Mail.

Will FIFA Catch Up With EA?

While FIFA are still working on resurrecting their football game franchise, EA Sports has already made a significant step by producing its own game.

The EA Sports FC 24 game released in September 2023 has been a success, garnering praise from gamers who had initially thought there would be widespread changes due to EA ending its partnership with FIFA. The Career Mode is still there, the Ultimate Team is still there and also various esports competition are still underway.

And considering the fact that EA already secured exclusive licensing rights with many of the world’s most popular football leagues and teams for its EA Sports FC series, it will be a challenge for FIFA and 2K to hit the markets once their game is ready.

Being honest, it won’t be easy for FIFA to catch up with Electronic Arts by the time they release their football game. However, the game could create the much-needed competition that has been lacking in the football gaming arena for over a decade. 2K’s track record in the gaming world suggests a promising future for FIFA in football’s gaming scene.
