Career
Sean Strickland has been a pro MMA fighter since 2008. During his early career days, he performed at King of the Cage and put up a record of 9-0. The California based fighter won the middleweight championship at King of the Cage and defended the title three times.
Following his impressive performance at King of the Cage, he was signed by the UFC in 2014. He made his debut in March, defeating Bubba McDaniel via rear-naked choke submission in the first round. He made his next appearance two months later, defeating Luke Barnatt via split decision.
Strickland would later move up to the welterweight division and that’s where he suffered his first career loss against Santiago Ponzinibbio. From 2015 to 2018, the former King of the Cage fighter went 5-3 in the welterweight division.
In 2020, Strickland jumped right back to the middleweight where his only losses came against Alex Pereira and Jared Cannonier. On 10 September 2023, he defeated Israel Adesanya to become the middleweight champion. He lost the title to Dricus de Plessis on 20 January.
