Nigerian footballer Terem Moffi to miss on 2024 AFCON due to a late call-up

Terem Moffi is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Ligue 1 club Nice and the Nigeria national team though he missed the 2024 AFCON due to a late call.

He is the son of a former professional goalkeeper and this suggests the likelihood of his father’s influence in his career. The striker began playing at an early age and played locally and also at school.

At 17 years old, the player embarked on a daring adventure to Europe where he joined the Buckswood Football Academy in England, seeking better training and opportunities.

He then joined Kauno Žalgiris and Riteriai in Lithuania though he had visa issues that delayed his debut, his scoring prowess shone through when he scored profusely for Riteriai and this caught the attention of bigger clubs. His talent earned him a move to Belgium and he signed with club Kortrijk.

In the same season, Moffi’s dream came true when he signed for Ligue 1 side Lorient. This was a turning point in his career as he became vital in his first season, saving the club from relegation. In the next season, he continued his ascent and established himself as one of the league’s most prolific strikers.

Moffi’s career continues shining as he was loaned to Nice due to his talent and potential. Despite a challenging start at the club, he has been a key player for the club and currently plays there.

Internationally, he is a key player of the Nigeria national team and played a crucial role in the 2023 AFCON, scoring 3 goals including a vital winner against Morocco in the quarter-finals.

Terem Igobor Moffi was born on May 25, 1999, in Calabar, Nigeria to Leonard and Margaret Moffi, where he grew up playing football on the streets and local pitches. His father Leonard was a professional goalkeeper who played for several clubs in Nigeria including Enugu Rangers, Calabar Rovers and Black Cats.

However much he was passionate about football, his parents also ensured that he succeeded in formal education and balanced both.
