Nigerian-Canadian star Caleb Agada lights up hoops on both sides of the Atlantic

Caleb Agada is a Nigerian-Canadian professional basketball player currently playing for Prometey in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, he played college basketball for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees before being drafted to the Canadian Premier League.

Agada began his professional career in Spain while he was playing with CB Prat before leaving for Israel to play for Yehuda Hevlon in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. In the next season, he became a standout player in the Premier League, earning recognition as both the MVP and the best defensive player.

He is also a member of the Nigerian national basketball team and played a key role in their gold medal victory at the 2021 African Nations Cup.

Caleb Agada Educational Background

Caleb was born in Nigeria but the family emigrated to Canada when he was still young. He attended Assumption Catholic Secondary School in Burlington, Ontario and then proceeded to the University of Ottawa where he played for the Gee-Gees basketball team for five seasons and graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

In addition to his formal education, the player also participated in basketball camps and training programs throughout his youth and development as a player.

Caleb Agada Early and Personal Life

The player was born on August 31 1994 in Lafia, Nigeria to parents of the country’s descent. The family then moved to Canada and settled in Burlington when he was still young. The player attended Assumption Catholic Secondary School in Burlington, where he began his basketball career.

He then proceeded to the University of Ottawa where he played for the Gee-Gees basketball team for five seasons and graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada,  he played college basketball for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees before being drafted to the Canadian Premier League. When playing college basketball, he excelled as a defensive player and earned numerous accolades:

  • Back-to-back U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons
  • OUA First Team All-Star for three consecutive seasons
  • Second Team All-Canadian honors

In 2017, he declared for the Canadian Premier League [U Sports] draft where he was selected by the Niagara River Lions as the 10th overall pick. While the Niagara River Lions drafted him, he ultimately chose to pursue opportunities overseas, Spain with its strong basketball league and established development programs attracted his attention.

Agada began his professional career in Spain when he signed a professional contract to play with CB Prat, a team in the LEB Oro, the second division of Spanish basketball before leaving for Israel to play for Yehuda Hevlon in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. 

In the next season, he became a standout player in the Premier League, earning recognition as both the MVP and the best defensive player. His performance in Spain caught the attention of other teams and leagues, paving the way for his later moves to Israel and eventually his current position in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. He is also a member of the Nigerian national basketball team and played a key role in their gold medal victory at the 2021 African Nations Cup.

In conclusion,  his journey to Spain wasn’t solely based on being drafted by a Canadian team; rather, his decision to explore European opportunities led him to Spain and launched his professional basketball career.

Agada Expectations and Dreams in his career

While the player has not stated his exact dreams and expectations in his career, we can base our guesses on his achievements like, he is currently playing for the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, a top team where he is likely to maintain his performance and probably help them get a championship title.

Agada is a key member of the Nigerian national team and played a crucial role in their gold medal victory at the 2021 African Nations Cup.  He likely wants to continue representing his country on the international stage and contribute to their future success.
