Latvian tennis star Jelena Ostapenko has given a peek at her personal life.

She admitted that she is an adrenaline-driven woman both on and off-court. The best of her adrenaline takes effect whenever she is on the driver’s seat.

Ostapenko is speed fanatic and she can’t help it in most cases. But there is more to her life than meets the eye.

Ostapenko, 26, evidently has a penchant for adrenaline, openly confessing her fondness for high-speed driving, rollercoasters, and similar exhilarating activities.

She is renowned for her fiercely aggressive playing style on the tennis court especially at the 2017 French Open where she won her first Grand Slam.

The Latvian is equally recognized for her candid expression of thoughts and emotions during matches. On Thursday, Ostapenko secured a victory over world No. 41 Marta Kostyuk with a score of 7-5, 6-3, advancing to the semifinals of the Adelaide International.

During her post-match interview, the No. 6 seed Ostapenko was queried about her life away from the court, specifically addressing her affinity for fast driving.

She said it is something that gives her satisfaction and is nearly natural whenever she is driving.

“Yes. I like rollercoasters and those kind of things… Of course, I like some crazy things like driving fast as you mentioned,” she said.

She added that her life outside a tennis court is full of focus and there are things she won’t do when off the court simply because ‘she acts mature’.

“But in general, when I’m living my normal life, I’m more thinking and probably more mature than on the court,” Ostapenko said on the court following her Adelaide win over Kostyuk.

Is Jelena Ostapenko Aggressive When Playing Tennis?

The world No. 12 player exhibits an aggressive playing style at times which she says stems from her desire to win. Ostapenko admitted to experiencing intense frustration with herself on the court, particularly when she misses certain shots.

Expanding on her on-court demeanor, she said that most of her emotional outbursts come stems from a deep desire to secure victories.

Simultaneously, Ostapenko has now secured a 2-0 record in head-to-head matchups against Marta Kostyuk in Adelaide.

In the match against Kostyuk, Ostapenko faced a challenge when she failed to serve out for the first set at a leading score of 5-3.

Nevertheless, Ostapenko maintained her concentration and managed to break Kostyuk once again in the 12th game, the crucial moment when the Ukrainian was serving to stay in the opening set.

Following her victory in the first set, Kostyuk began the second set with a 2-0 lead. However, her advantage was short-lived as Ostapenko promptly secured a break in the third game.

Despite Kostyuk managing to reclaim the break, it did not alter the course of the match significantly. Ostapenko broke the Ukrainian once again in the fourth game and then maintained her serve for the rest of the match, securing a two-set win.

Does Jelena Ostapenko Have a Grand Slam?

The Latvian has one Grand Slam title to her name. She won the 2017 French Open. Beyond the charm of her smile, Ostapenko possesses the ability to dismantle opponents when you least expect it.

During the 2017 French Open, Ostapenko displayed her prowess by defeating opponents such as Louisa Chirico, Monica Puig, Lesia Tsurenko, and Samantha Stosu

This is despite being ranked 47th in the world at the time. In the quarterfinals, she faced Caroline Wozniacki, and overcame a set deficit to secure victory.

The semifinals saw her triumph over Timea Bacsinszky in a challenging three-set match. In a remarkable final, she staged a comeback from a set and 3-0 deficit against Simona Halep, becoming the first unseeded woman to win the French Open since 1933 and the first Latvian player to claim a Grand Slam singles title.

With six career singles titles and six doubles titles to her name as of January 2024, Ostapenko’s prowess remains evident.

She defeated World No.1 Iga Swiatek at the 2023 US Open.
