Jay Williams is a former American basketball player who played for the Duke University Blue Devils and after retiring from active football, he became an analyst with ESPN and is also a mental health advocate.
The player represented his high school, Saint Joseph High School where his talent caught the attention of several top college programs, ultimately leading him to commit to Duke University. On joining the Blue Devils, he established himself as a key player and led the team to a NCAA Championship victory.
He was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and he continued to dominate in his sophomore and junior seasons, garnering numerous accolades including winning the Naismith Award and the NABC Player of the Year awards for two consecutive years.
Jay was also a consensus First-Team All-American in both years and with his sights set on the NBA, he entered the 2002 draft and was highly anticipated, ultimately being selected second overall by the Chicago Bulls.

The player attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey where he led the school team to two state championship games. He grew up in a Christian household and his faith has played a significant role in shaping his life. Williams is married to Nikki Bonacorsi and together they have two children, a daughter and a son.
Tragic Accident and Career Interference
As he was poised to embark on his professional basketball journey, Williams had a tragic motorcycle accident that threatened to shutter his basketball career dreams. He suffered several injuries and had nerve damage, leaving his playing career in jeopardy.
However, he undertook a rehabilitation process and that gave him room to return to the court to continue playing for the Chicago Bulls.
