The January transfer window is already open and clubs have less than 30 days to bolster their squads for the second half of the season. With the likes of Donny van de Beek and Hugo Lloris having already secured transfers, we expect more players to be on the move before the window closes.

In this article, we will be looking at some of the most talked about potential moves that could happen in the coming weeks.

1. Jadon Sancho

Since his public fall out with Erik ten Hag, things went from bad to worse for Jadon Sancho. The talented winger, who was still struggling to reach his full potential in the English Premier League, was exiled from the first team and as it stands, he is on his way out. He hasn’t featured for United since August 2023.

According to latest reports, Jadon Sancho is close to rejoining his former club Borussia Dortmund. All the parties involved would like the move to happen but wages appear to be the main stumbling block. Sky Sports report that United would be more willing to terminate contracts if it is for the greater good, and discussions to this effect have taken place over the Sancho situation.

2. Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips has had it rough at Manchester City since his arrival from Leeds United. To say his time at City has been disastrous would be an understatement. There has been talks about his time with the treble winners and Pep Guardiola even apologized for not giving him enough playing time. Phillips has only played 89 minutes since the start of the 2023-24 season.

With the Euros tournament approaching in the summer, the former Leeds man will need regular playing time so as to be selected in England’s squad. Phillips is likely to be on the move this January transfer window and Newcastle United have been strongly linked with him. He could also join Serie A giants Juventus if the move to the Magpies does not happen.

3. Ivan Toney

Brentford forward Ivan Toney has been out of action for some time now as he is still serving his eight-month ban from football for breaching FA’s betting rules. However, he is set to return on January 17 and could be on the move before the winter window closes.

Toney has long been linked to Arsenal and this could be the best time for the Gunners to sign the England international. Arsenal faltered in their title challenge on 28 December when they lost to West Ham 2-0. The game highlighted a need for a prolific striker as the Gunners had 30 efforts on goal but didn’t find the back of the net even once. Toney could be Mikel Arteta’s man in front of goal.

4. Eric Dier

Entering the final year of his contract, January could be the perfect time for Eric Dier and Tottenham Hotspur to part ways. Dier has made just one start this season, and it was because both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Den are both injured. With both players set to return soon, it could be time for Dier to leave. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou even elected to field a full-back duo of Emerson Royal and Ben Davies in central defence ahead of him.

5. Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale played a key role in Arsenal’s chase for the Premier League title during the 2022-23 season playing every single match. However, he has found himself lacking game time this season as Mikel Arteta has opted to replace him in the starting XI with David Raya.

Despite Mikel Arteta stressing the need for “competition” between the sticks, it’s quite clear that Ramsdale is not in the manager’s plans. And with the European Championship coming a few months from now, Ramsdale will need regular playing time to be part of England’s squad in Germany.

According to numerous such as BBC Sports, Ramsdale could be on the move before the end of January transfer window. He has been linked with Newcastle United and Chelsea.
