Jannik Sinner vs Djokovic semifinal match ended in a loss for the world No. 1 – Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian was defending his Australian Open 2023 title but Sinner was in his element at the Rod Laver Arena.
This was the first time that Djokovic lost in five years that he played in Melbourne. He has never lost any match since 2018 which accounts for his 10 Australian Open Grand Slams.

It was a spirited match which Sinner was in control of for most of the game. He beat Djokovic in three set 6-1 6-2 6-7 (6-8) 6-3.
Sinner prevented his legendary opponent from making any breaks and forced him into an unusual number of mistakes right from the outset.
The Italian used his strength and accuracy to break again for a 5-1 lead after winning Djokovic’s opening service game. Sinner then served out a flawless first set in 35 minutes.

The Melbourne crowd was left in utter disbelief seeing Djokovic struggle so much on Rod Laver Arena There have never been more Grand Slam victories by a male player after dropping the first set—46 to be exact.
But Djokovic’s task got more difficult during a second set in which he was unable to stop the unintentional blunders.
Sinner continued to return well but Djokovic’s level slightly improved in the third set as both men looked solid on serve.
Djokovic edged a tense tie-break after saving a match point and Sinner, who was flawless all along cruised into the fourth set with new stamina.
The Italian reset impressively to force three break points in Djokovic’s first service game which the Serb saved – before Djokovic blew a 40-0 lead to hand over another break for 3-1, which proved decisive.
What Made Jannik Sinner Defeat Novak Djokovic?
Sinner has been playing at his best since the ATP Finals in Turin which he won in yet another encounter with Djokovic.
However, he credits his victory to lessons from his Wimbledon loss.
“The confidence from the end of last season has, for sure, kept the belief I can play against the best players in the world and I’m really happy I can play in my first final,” said Sinner. I learned a lot from that defeat at Wimbledon and it is all part of the process,” he said after the match.
How Did Novak Djokovic React to Losing to Jannik Sinner?
The ‘King of Australian Open’ described Jannik Sinner vs Djokovic semifinal match in Melbourne as a tough game.
He hasn’t played such a challenging match since his debut in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament. He was optimistic of making a career 11th Australian Open win and overall 25 Grand Slams.
Djokovic has in the past spoken of his admiration for Sinner who is among the top five young tennis players taking over the sport.

With wins in the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals at the close of the previous season, Sinner knew he had defeated Djokovic twice previously going into his most recent effort to unseat the world number one.

All Sinner wants is his name engraved on the trophy but he will have to over Daniil Medvedev who is making another Grand Slam final.
Medvedev lost the US Open 2023 finals to Djokovic and he debuted the ATP Tour 2024 season with renewed gusto.
The Russia defeated German tennis star Alexander Zverev in the last four to make it to the finals due for Sunday.
Zverev thwarted Carlos Alcaraz’s bit to run for a third Grand slam in Melbourne but landed a match with Medvedev.
The Russian and the German have had a frosty relationship for a while now and it was one of the things fans were looking at.
