Who is Jannik Sinner?

As you already know, Jannik Sinner is a professional tennis player from Italy. He competes on the ATP Tour and boats a career high ranking of world number four.

Sinner was born on 16 August 2001, in San Candido, Italy. He grew up in the German-speaking region of South Tyrol and as a result, speaks German in addition to Italian and English. During his childhood, Sinner took interest in football, skiing and tennis. He was introduced to tennis and skiing when he was just three years old as his mother was a ski trainer.

While aged 13, Jannik Sinner decided to give up skiing and football in order to focus in tennis. As a result, he moved to Bordighera to train under famous tennis coach Riccardo Piatti at the Piatti Tennis Centre.

Sinner wasn’t among the top junior players, but that didn’t stop him from turning pro at the age of 16. Unlike fellow youngster Carlos Alcaraz, who too the tennis world by a storm after turning pro, Sinner had a slow start on the ATP Tour.

In 2019, the Italian broke into the top 100 and continued with his rise in the rankings the following year when he won his first ATP Tour title in Sofia. He added a second title in 2021 and would go on to win three more titles that same year. Prior to Sunday’s Australian Open final, he had won seven titles on the ATP Tour.

Sinner reached a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in 2023, where he lost to Djokovic at Wimbledon. On Sunday, he won his maiden Slam at the Australian Open.
