Jurgen Klopp announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. With the news shocking many, football fans are wondering who are the favourites to replace Klopp?

Liverpool will be in need of a new manager prior to the start of next season. But despite being one of the biggest football clubs in the world, replacing Klopp won’t be an easy task. The German boss has done a great job at Anfield and with football fans wanting to know who will continue with his legacy, the bookies have already put a list of candidates. Here are five managers who are favourites to replace Klopp at Liverpool, as per Eurosport:

5. Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is a serial winner who has won numerous trophies throughout his managerial career. As a result, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he is tipped as one of the favourites to replace Klopp at Liverpool.

Postecoglou is the current manager of Tottenham Hotspur, having joined them at the start of last season from Celtic. Under his guidance, Spurs have been impressive and even  topped the table before the injury crisis that led to them losing key players such as James Maddison. Postecoglou’s Spurs are the only team to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

Whereas we don’t know whether the Australian manager could agree to leave Spurs, there is a possibility that he could accept Liverpool’s offer considering he grew up supporting the club.

4. Julian Nagelsmann

Viewed by many as one of the best young football managers in the world, it couldn’t be a surprise to see Julian Nagelsmann at Liverpool next season. He is the current manager of the Germany national team but his contract only runs until this summer when the Euros will be played.

The German is a man with a point to prove after his sacking by Bayern Munich midway last season and could be a perfect replacement for Klopp at Anfield.

3. Steven Gerrard

A club legend, it would be the joy of every Liverpool fan seeing Steven Gerrard take over from where Jurgen Klopp has left. Klopp previously said that Gerrard would become Liverpool’s manager and there couldn’t be a better time for that to happen than now.

Gerrard is currently managing Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq after a disappointing spell at Aston Villa that led to his sacking. Having recently signed a new deal with Al-Ettifaq, the question remains would he have extended his contract in Saudi Arabia if he knew that he would have a chance to manage Liverpool next season?

2. Roberto De Zerbi

Arguably one of the best managers in the world right now, Roberto De Zerbi is one of the favourites to replace Klopp at Liverpool. De Zerbi has done a great job at Brighton since taking over after the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea.

In his first season, he guided Brighton into Europe after finishing sixth in the Premier League. Brighton had never participated in any European competition before and are currently in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. Will he bring his coaching expertise at Liverpool next season? Liverpool fans will hope so.

1. Xabi Alonso

Another ex-Liverpool player on the list of favourites to replace Klopp, Xabi Alonso is the man who could actually be managing the Reds next season. The Spaniard enjoyed a fine spell at Liverpool as a player from 2004 to 2009 and it couldn’t be a surprise to see him back again, but this time as a manager.

Alonso has done a great job at German club Bayer Leverkusen where is the manager. Under his guidance, Leverkusen are unbeaten this season. They are on top of the Bundesliga with 48 points, four above defending champions Bayern Munich. Leverkusen have won 15 out of 18 games this season.
