Tusker FC will take on Kenya Police at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday, looking to battle for maximum points to end their year in style and potentially move into the top five of the FKF Premier League standings.

The brewers have had a tough start to the season, but three wins and two draws in their last five matches have given them a good impetus and momentum heading into the final game of the calendar year.

They come up against Kenya Police FC, looking to battle for three points that will be crucial in their title hunt. Striker Shaphan Oyugi says the team has prepared well for the game and will be keen to go for all three points.

“I think we have picked up really well as a team over the last five games. We have been playing better and better and also focusing on improving aspects of our game that we have not been good at. We know that we need to get this consistent and we have to give 100 percent in every game,” said the number 10.

He added; “We know that we will face a very tough Police side, but we have confidence in ourselves and the fact that we come off a win really boosts our confidence.”

Tusker are playing the match off a tough run. They played last Wednesday against Bidco United away from home in Muranga, and were on the road two days to Bungoma where they played Nzoia Sugar on Sunday.

They travelled back to Nairobi on Monday, trained on Tuesday morning and have another hour and a half trip to Machakos to play Police.

But they will not put that in their minds as they eye three points.

Police come into the match off the backdrop of a defeat to KCB at their backyard over the weekend. They also drew 1-1 with Muhoroni Youth last weekend.

Coach Zdravko Logarusic hopes that his side turns up well and battles for a win in the duel. “Tusker is never an easy opponent but we have prepared well. We have worked to address some of the weaknesses we saw in our last game and I am hoping for improvement,” said the coach.

Meanwhile in other matches set for Wednesday, AFC leopards will travel away to Murang’a Seals. Leopards play Murang’a on the backdrop of their second win of the season, having beaten Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 over the weekend.

Leopards confident

Hassan Beja celebrates his goal for AFC Leopards against FC Homeboyz.

The victory has pumped some confidence into their chests and they hope to ride on it away to Seals, who are under pressure. Coach Tomas Trucha is confident his side will bag victory.

“We have been improving in each game and what I loved from our previous match is the fact that now we are converting more chances. That was our main problem but we have addressed it well. We know Muranga is a good team especially in their home but we want to end the year with a win,” said the tactician.

Seal have had a massive slump after a good start to the season. They have not won in five matches, losing three and drawing two. They must win against AFC on Wednesday to ease the pressure on their shoulders.

Another under pressure side that is in action on Wednesday is Sofapaka. Batoto ba Mungu are spot from the relegation zones and will be playing Muhoroni Youth away from home, another side entangled in the web of relegation. Sofapaka lost their last match 4-1 away to Shabana FC while Muhoroni won 1-0 on the travels, when they beat Posta Rangers 1-0 in Machakos over the weekend.
