Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau wants his side sharper in goal
  • Posta have won only one match in their last five
  • They played to a 0-0 draw with Tusker FC at Ruaraka
  • Homeboyz have overtaken them to second after beating Shabana

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau says he wants his side to be sharper in goal after a tough run that has seen the early league pace setters win only once in five matches.

The mailmen picked a point in their last match, a 0-0 draw against Tusker FC at Ruaraka, in a match that Kamau said his side were not dangerous in the final third.

“I think we played well but lacked in some aspects especially in attack. We didn’t drive the ball much into their final third which is something I believe we need to address. Defensively we have seen some improvement and I am glad with that,” the tactician said.

Despite their dry run that has seen them drop down from the top of the pile, the tactician believes they are still set to challenge.

“It is just a tough little spell where we just need to adjust minor things but overall I still believe we have a good side. The season is just getting started and we have time to make improvements and in the next matches, I know we will do better,” said the coach.

Meanwhile, his opposite number Robert Matano was left infuriated by a decision from the referee not to award them a penalty in the second half for a open handball.

Referee a huge shame

“The referee is a huge shame. That is a decision that you can’t think twice about. They are not being honest in their work and don’t deserve to officiate not just in the Premier League but any other league,” an infuriated Matano said.

The decision was in the 65th minute when Elvis Osok clearly handled the ball as he missed his clearance from a cross, and referee David Mulongo didn’t even flinch as he watched the game play on.

Earlier, there was another handball incident inside the box, which was also ignored by the match officials. The brewers were seeking back to back wins, after last weekend’s victory over City Stars in Machakos.

Tusker had been largely the better side in the game, as they had more chances to score but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Mike Oduor had twice made good runs with shot from distance, but none could land on target. They had two more close chances, Shaphan Siwa forcing the keeper to a good save with a near post header off a Chris Erambo cross, while Stewart Omondi also forced the custodian to a good save with a swinging volley from distance.

In the second half, Tusker doubled their efforts with raids on the Posta goal, but weren’t lucky to get a goal. Three minutes to time, Erambo came inches close to breaking the deadlock when he struck a brilliant shot from distance, but it missed the target by a whisker.

In added time, they came even closer when substitute Ibrahim Joshua ran into a corner with a header, but he couldn’t land it on target with the keeper off his line.

Posta were delighted to come off with a point as they had played on the backfoot most of the game. They take on Muhoroni Youth in Machakos on Sunday, hoping for a bounce to put their title fight back on track.

Kakamega Homeboyz have meanwhile overtaken them to second, after edging out Shabana FC 2-0. Goals in either half from Moses Shummah and Hillary Otieno gave the Kakamega based side victory.

They are now on 27 points, one behind leaders Gor Mahia and one ahead of Posta. Next weekend, they will play away to AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
