Luis Diaz began playing football as a small boy. He was six years old when he started attending a small football school run by his father. In 2014, he joined Atletico Junior after impressing the team’s officials in an open trial.

Diaz joined the senior team of Atletico Junior in 2016 but was immediately assigned to farm team Barranquilla. On 26 April, he made his senior debut in a Primera B match against Deportivo Pereira. He came on as a second-half substitute as his team lost 2-1. On 14 May, the young winger scored his first senior goal in a 2-1 victory over Cucuta Deportivo.

Diaz was promoted to Atletico Junior’s main squad at the end of the season. However, he had to wait until the 2018 season to become a regular starter in the team. Due to his impressive performance, he was signed by Porto during the summer of 2019.
