WHICH TEAM HAS THE LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN NBA SEASON?

Los Angeles Lakers holds the record of the longest winning streak in NBA season with 33 victories in a single season (1971–72).  This is the longest regular-season win to date and is a big statement in NBA history.

Lakers achieved this feat through the legendary Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West. Chamberlain, still in the twilight of his career, averaged a then-unthinkable 27 points and 18 rebounds per game. West orchestrated the offense with surgical precision and it became an incredible season to watch.

The winning streak began on November 5, 1971, with a hard-fought overtime win against the Phoenix Suns. From there, the Lakers steamrolled through the league, dismantling opponents with a ferocious blend of power and finesse. They averaged over 120 points per game during the streak, showcasing a fast-paced offense which posed a threat to the opposing camp.

West’s clutch shooting and Chamberlain’s unstoppable post moves were the cornerstones of this offensive juggernaut. But the Lakers’ success wasn’t just about two superstars. Gail Goodrich provided sharpshooting from the perimeter; Elgin Baylor added veteran leadership; and the supporting cast played with grit and determination.

The streak reached its peak on January 9, 1972, with a 132-87 rout of the Detroit Pistons. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The Lakers faced close calls against the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks, highlighting their vulnerability despite their impressive run.

The Lakers finally ended the impressive winning campaign on January 30 against the Milwaukee Bucks, who prevailed 120-104. Despite the loss, the Lakers’ achievement had already cemented their place in basketball history as the team with the longest winning streak in NBA season.

Winning 33 games in a single season always challenged NBA teams thereafter but none of them have had such success so far.
