Veteran NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hip broke on Friday during a concert in Los Angeles.

He is now in hospital recuperating. The 76-year-old, who has only ever been the league’s Most Valuable Player six times, is scheduled to have surgery at a Los Angeles hospital.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer, the Basketball Hall of Famer, was at a concert at the time, according to Deborah Morales, his longtime business partner.

“Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip. He will have surgery today. We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now,” Morales posted on posted X.

The legendary basketball player was 42 years old when he retired from the NBA, following the 1988-89 season. In his final act, he helped the Los Angeles Lakers secure their fifth NBA championship. It became a crucial component of his accomplishment as the all-time leading scorer in the NBA. With 38,387 points in his career, he holds the record for most points scored in NBA history.
