Iga Swiatek win at the 2023 French Open remains her most remarkable win of her four Grand Slams.

After her dominant victory at Roland Garros, Swiatek surprised many by revealing she was battling a serious injury during the tournament.

Swiatek’s physical struggles likely played a role in her on-court performance, despite dropping only one set throughout the tournament.

Before the French Open, Swiatek’s injury had surfaced during her participation in the Rome quarterfinals on May 17^th.

She was then playing against Elena Rybakina and she resorted to retiring mid-match, fueling speculation about the severity of her injury.

“At Roland Garros, not everything depended on me. I had quite a serious injury,” Swiatek admitted during an interview with Radio One’s Cezary Gurjew.

She added that she is glad that she still managed it all somehow.

“I’m glad I managed to take part in it at all,” stated the Pole.

Swiatek needed a medical timeout after losing the second set of their match due to a pulled leg. Due to an injury to her right thigh, Swiatek completed the match but had to leave early in the third set.

At first, everyone were worried Swiatek wouldn’t be able to compete in the French Open.

Thankfully, she made a full recovery in time to defend her championship at Roland Garros at the French Open.

Despite not being in the best of health, Swiatek defeated Karolina Muchova in the final to capture her third French Open championship this year.

Swiatek expressed gratitude to her coach Maciej Ryszczuk for his diligent efforts in helping her recover from the injury and prepare for Roland Garros.

This was after defeating Muchova in a close three-set match to secure her third French Open championship and her fourth Grand Slam victory.

She says all this was a result of team effort and having the right people by her side who understand her better.

“You know, whole team effort also, you know, Maciej taking care of my health and actually managing these, you know, little injuries that happened. We know, you know, that it’s going to happen in sport, but he’s the reason basically I was able to compete, both after, you know, Indian Wells, I came back really quickly, and after Rome, as well,” she added.

“So really shout-out to the team, because without them, I wouldn’t be here,” she told the press after her Roland Garros victory.

Swiatek etched her name deeper into French Open history by capturing her third championship title in 2023. The 22-year-old Polish star outlasted unseeded Czech Karolina Muchova in a thrilling three-set final, solidifying her status as the undisputed queen of clay.

Her powerful baseline game and exceptional court coverage proved too much for her opponents, showcasing her evolution into a nearly unbeatable force on clay.

The Grand Slam final was a test of will for Swiatek. After cruising through the first set, she faced a determined comeback from Muchova, who pushed the match to a deciding third set.

However, Swiatek’s unwavering resolve and clutch play proved decisive, allowing her to secure the victory 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

With this historic win, Swiatek joins a select group of women to have won the French Open three times, solidifying her place amongst the tennis greats.

Meanwhile, Swiatek recently disclosed that she had moments where she thought of retiring early following the exit of Ashleigh Barty.

She says that Barty’s news of retiring at 25 struck her hard that she took time and nearly decided to exit tennis as early as Barty.

Barty decided to quit tennis in March 2022 following her victorious Australian Open campaign. It took many by surprise since she was only 25 years old.

Her departure created an opening for Swiatek to ascend to the No. 1 spot in the WTA rankings.
