Derrick Gordon is an American basketball player whose net worth is about $3-$5 million and was the first to come out openly in men’s basketball to say that he is gay in the NCAA Division 1. He played college basketball for Western Kentucky, UMass Amherst and Seton Hall.

Gordon played high school basketball at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey and began his college career at Western Kentucky University. He became the first openly gay men’s basketball player in NCAA Division 1 history in 2014.

He then transferred to the University of Massachusetts Amherst and played for the Minutemen for two seasons and finished his college career at Seton Hall University. He went undrafted in the 2016 NBA and has since played for various teams in the NBA G League and overseas leagues. He currently plays for the Anyang KGC in the Korean Basketball League.

Derrick Robert Gordon was born on December 12 1991 to Sandra and Michael Gordon. He has two siblings Darryl who is his twin and Michael Gordon Jr. He started playing basketball at a young age and excelled at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, leading the school team to success. After high school, he played for Kentucky University for a year before he transferred to the University of Massachusetts Amherst [UMass].

Gordon started playing in high school, at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he led the school team to success and game recognition for his basketball skills. He then joined Western Kentucky University for one season and briefly played for the Hilltoppers before transferring, where he earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference third team.

Gordon then joined the University of Massachusetts Amherst and played for the Minutemen for two seasons, then graduated from the institution with a degree in Communication. While at the university, he made history as the first openly gay player in Division 1 men’s basketball.

The player transferred to Seton Hall University for his final year of eligibility and played for the Pirates before embarking on a professional basketball career.

After university, Gordon’s journey saw him take his talent to various international leagues, leaving a mark on each one. First, he ventured onto the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus to play for Apollon Limassol in the First Division. Following his stint in Cyprus, Gordon crossed the border to Germany, joining the Romerstrom Gladiators Trier in the ProA league where he continued being a valuable contributor. Beyond the two teams, it is possible that Gordon participated in other leagues or tournaments during this period.
