From Francis Ngannou introducing himself to the boxing world by flooring Tyson Fury to Gervonta “Tank” Davis brutally knocking out Ryan Garcia, this year was tremendous. Let’s take a look at the biggest boxing moments of 2023 that left fans talking.

Whether Francis Ngannou’s boxing career turns out to be a success or not, we will never forget how he introduced himself in the heavyweight division. On October 28, Ngannou made his professional boxing debut as underdog against the undefeated WBC lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Even though it was his first pro boxing match, the former UFC Champion looked confident in the ring and even knocked down Fury. Just when everyone thought it was over for the Gypsy King, he managed to get on his feet and continued with the fight.
One of the judges scored 95-94 in favour of Ngannou while the other two gave it 96-93 for Fury. The decision was a bit controversial but despite the loss, Ngannou has a future in boxing. We wait for his next opponent.
2. Gervonta “Tank” Davis KOs Ryan Garcia
Social media star Ryan Garcia stepped into the ring with Gervonta “Tank” Davis this year. Davis knocked out the undefeated Ryan Garcia in the seventh round with a vicious body shot to his right abdomen. Garcia had a dramatic reaction while going down, which made it even exciting to watch. The 24-year-old went to one knee and failed to get to his feet even though it looked like he was going to.

It was a non-title fight which took place at a catchweight of 136lbs and Garcia agreed to a rehydration clause of 10lbs. The event was the fifth largest in Las Vegas history raising over $100 million in revenue.
3. Terence Crawford Becomes The Undisputed Welterweight Champion
In one of the most anticipated fights of 2023, Terence Crawford dismantled Errol Spence Jr. to to unify the long-fractured welterweight championship. Following his victory, Crawford bragged to the media on how he had told them that he would easily win against Spence Jr. He claimed victory via ninth round TKO.
Crawford is the first undisputed welterweight champion in the four-belt era and the first male fighter to unify multiple divisions.

4. Canelo Alvarez Reminds The World He Still Got it
2023 was also the year that Canelo Alvarez reminded the boxing world that he is still an elite by defeating Jermell Charlo to retain the undisputed super middleweight title. The Mexican boxer faced Charlo in September and dominated him from the very onset of the bout.
He backed Charlo into the ropes time and time again before scoring the only knockdown of the fight in the seventh round. Charlo had moved up two weight classes to fight Canelo but things didn’t go his way.
5. Devin Haney Vs Regis Prograis
Devin Haney defeating Regis Prograis was one of the biggest boxing moments of 2023. Haney delivered boxing masterclass against Regis Prograis earlier this month to become the new WBC super lightweight champion. Haney, who is a former undisputed lightweight world champion, stepped up to the 140-pound division for the first time and turned out to be a menace for his opponent. He knocked Prograis down once on the way to a unanimous decision victory in San Francisco.

Back in May, Haney had faced veteran Vasiliy Lomachenko and also secured victory via unanimous decision. At this point, we can all agree that Haney is a force to be reckoned with in the ring.
