Jamaal Lascelles – Newcastle

Fantastic in a superb defensive performance from Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s team limited the visitors to only one shot within the box and an xG figure of 0.02 as the Magpies ended Arsenal’s undefeated start to the season at St James’ Park.

Lascelles, who is possibly playing at the greatest level of his Newcastle career right now, gave a true captain’s effort. Due to Sven Botman’s absence, the 29-year-old has returned from the cold and has put on a string of performances that have strengthened his case for a regular fixture.

Lascelles produced a number of well-timed defensive interventions, won some enormous headers, and put his body on the line to stop three shots.

Jeremy Doku – Manchester City

Ever since joining Manchester City in the summer, Doku has shown glimpses of his immense talent; nevertheless, this performance was enough to make the other Premier League players take note.

Doku, 21, was outstanding as Pep Guardiola’s team beat Bournemouth 6-1 at the Etihad, contributing directly to FIVE goals. In addition to scoring a goal for good measure, the Belgian became the eighth player in Premier League history to assist four goals in a single game. He was also the youngest to accomplish this feat.

Doku is still undeveloped, but this shows what he can do when everything comes together. All afternoon, untouchable.

Chiedozie Ogbene – Luton

In their 1-1 tie with Liverpool, Chiedozie Ogbene of Luton proved he could compete at the Premier League level by becoming his team’s most dangerous player. At Kenilworth Road, Ogbene frequently had Trent Alexander-Arnold for toast, consistently emerging victorious in their one-on-one match.

Ogbene finished 4/5 dribbles and won 10/11 duels during the match; Liverpool had a lot of trouble keeping up with the Irishman’s lightning-fast speed during transitions. Luton’s chances of surviving will depend heavily on him after the Hatters moved up from the bottom three on goal differential.

Bernardo Silva – Manchester City

Bernardo Silva was once again at his imperious best in Manchester City’s 6-1 thumping of Bournemouth, following up his man-of-the-match effort in the Manchester Derby last weekend. Silva notched two goals and assisted in creating the third, his second a gorgeous finish that he hoisted over Ionut Radu.

Silva missed early on but eventually moved into the center as City had the upper hand. The Portugal international seems to have returned to form just in time for the champs, who have some important games coming up.

Ross Barkley – Luton

Despite playing little football, Ross Barkley was outstanding during Luton’s tie with Liverpool. The midfielder showed no signs of rust. The former Evertonian was a highlight for Rob Edwards’ team and frequently reserves his best for matches with Liverpool.

Barkley, 29, was instrumental in the sequence that saw the Hatters open the score with a superb counterattack. He was courageous in possession and gave Luton’s engine room a touch of class. Although Barkley’s recruitment came with risk for Luton, he impressed with ten ball recoveries and some very excellent possession moments.

Harry Maguire – Manchester United

Harry Maguire is beginning to resemble the defender who persuaded Manchester United to spend a lot of money to get him, following a difficult two seasons at Old Trafford. Despite suffering a head injury early on, Maguire persevered to play a solid defense against Fulham.

Erik ten Hag’s team put forth an essentially mediocre performance; Maguire’s was a rare bright spot. In terms of touches (75), clearances (9), duels won (10), and aerial duels won (8), the England international topped his colleagues.

Harry Toffolo – Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest’s victory over in-form Aston Villa in a Midlands Derby at the City Ground snapped a six-game losing streak. With an amazing 2-0 victory this past weekend, Forest proved to be a difficult opponent for any club visiting their home ground.

For Steve Cooper’s team, Harry Toffolo played a strong left-back role, setting up both of the goals in the victory. Toffolo, who joined Forest from Huddersfield last season, has had difficulty getting consistent first-team playing time, but he can improve on this showing.
