Naseem Hamed started his professional boxing career at flyweight in 1992 and soon began knocking out a series of opponents. Hamed won the European bantamweight title at the age of 20 after defeating Vincenzo Belcastro over 12 rounds.

He defended the title once before winning his second title, the WBC International super bantamweight title in 1994. He would retain that title, and in 1995, when he won the WBO featherweight title against Steve Robinson.

In 1997, Naz won the IBF featherweight title but vacated it several months later after failing to negotiate with challenger Hector Lizarraga. In 1998, he recorded victories over notable names such as former three-time WBA title holder Wilfredo Vazquez, former WBC bantamweight title holder Wayne McCullough and future IBF champion Paul Ingle.

In October 1998, Naz added the WBC featherweight title to his collection after defeating Cesar Soto in over 12 rounds. He later chose to relinquish the title due to his commitment to being WBO champion.

Naseem Hamed suffered defeat for the first time in his professional career in 2001 when he faced Marco Antonio Barrera. He stayed out of action for one whole year and then returned to defeat Manuel Calvo in what would be his final match.
