Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, who was watching the game from the stands serving a touchline suspension, was impressed with the performance of his players.

“It was a good performance today. We started very good, exactly how we planned it, scored a great goal, not only the finish – the finish was fantastic – but the way we speeded it up, the overlap for the cross. But in the first half we were too passive, too easy-going, too comfortable. I was not pleased with that part of the game. Everton had chances. In the second half, we were proactive. It was a very good performance. Erik Ten Hag said in his post-match press conference after Manchester United beat Everton.

Alejandro Garnacho’s Brilliant Goal

Manchester United displayed a good performance against Everton but that was overshadowed by Alejandro Garnacho’s goal that everyone is talking about.

In just the third minute, Diogo Dalot received a short pass from Marcus Rashford and crossed from the right side, over the head of Garnacho. There initially looked to be no danger but the Argentine youngster had other ideas, taking a step back before leaping into the sky to produce an incredible bicycle kick into the top-right corner.

Garnacho’s Puskas-worth finish was unstoppable as it sailed over Jordan Pickford and into the net. The goal evoked memories of Wayne Rooney’s iconic winner against Manchester City back in February 2011.

Garnacho’s strike is only his first Premier League goal of the season after an inconsistent start, but it will be talked about for years.

How Manchester United Beat Everton

Alejandro Garnacho’s goal was the only chance Manchester United created in the first half and Everton will be left wondering why they did not capitalize afterwards.

Andre Onana produced two fantastic saves to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin before youngster Kobbie Mainoo was on hand to clear off the line. United were almost caught again, this time by Abdoulaye Doucoure who fired a shot that went wide.

After being in control of the first half, Everton thought the second half would go their way but they were unlucky when the visitors doubled their lead in the 56th minute. Anthony Martial was initially booked for a dive in the box but after a VAR review, the referee cancelled the Frenchman’s yellow card and awarded a penalty.

Marcus Rashford made no mistake as he fired the ball into the roof of the net where Jordan Pickford couldn’t reach. Everton tried to respond afterwards but their efforts were muted when Martial scored United’s third with 15 minutes left to seal the win. It was Martial’s seventh Premier League goal against Everton, at least two more than he has against any other side.

This was Everton’s sixth Premier League defeat by at least three goals in 2023, their most in a calendar year since 1994, when they lost seven.
