Career
Johny Hendricks developed interest in combat sports at a young age. He was a three-time Oklahoma high school wrestling state champion an d a two-time high school national champion. He was the winner of the 2005 and 2006 NCAA Division I national championships.
Hendricks was uncertain if he wanted to pursue the Olympics for wrestling and it was during that period that he found thrill in fighting. Following his graduation from college, young Hendricks started training in Cobra Kai jiu-jitsu under Marc Laimon in Las Vegas.
On 28 September 2007, Johny Hendricks made his professional MMA debut, securing a TKO victory over Victor Rackliff at Masters of the Cage 16. He had another fight in 2007, defeating Spencer Crowley via TKO in the second round.

Hendricks signed with World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and made his debut on 3 December 2008, defeating Justin Haskins. He fought several time afterwards before leaving WEC after his weight class was removed there.
In 2009, Johny Hendricks joined the UFC and made his debut at UFC 101 against Amir Sadollar. He defeated the former UFC champion 29 seconds into the fight, sending a message to other fighters in his division.
