Born in Barcelona, David Raya began his football journey in his native Spain playing for Cornella. Young Raya starter his career as a goalkeeper and combined his goalkeeping with playing as an outfield player in futsal.
In July 2012, Raya moved to England and joined Blackburn Rovers on a scholarship. He progressed through Blackburn’s academy and signed his first professional contract in February 2014.
David Raya spent the first half of the 2014-15 season on loan at Conference Premier club Southport where he gained his first senior experience. The Spanish goalkeeper made 24 appearances for Southport before returning to his parent club.
Raya signed a new deal with Blackburn in April 2015 and became the club’s number two goalkeeper behind Jason Steele during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Following Blackburn’s relegation to League One at the end of the 2016-17 season, Raya became the club’s first choice keeper.

The Spain international eventually left Blackburn Rovers in 2019 after making over 100 appearances for the club. Raya signed a four-year deal with Brentford, who at the time were playing in the Championship. His impressive performance helped Brentford secure promotion to the Premier League.
On 15 August 2023, David Raya completed a season-long move to Arsenal. He made his debut for the Gunners on 17 September in a match against Everton and has since replaced Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper.
