Bournemouth beat Newcastle United 2-0 in their Premier League fixture played on Saturday at Vitality Stadium. Dominic Solanke scored a brace in the second half as Bournemouth took full advantage of a depleted Newcastle team.

The Magpies were without 11 players due to either injuries or suspension and their absentee list grew longer as Miguel Almiron was forced off with injury in the first half. The list includes Brazilian talented midfielder Bruno Guimaraes who is on suspension and striker Callum Wilson who is injured.

Newcastle’s seven-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end and the defeat leaves them seventh in the Premier League table. Eddie Howe’s side are four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who have the opportunity to extend their advantage when they face Brentford on Sunday.

Bournemouth, who recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, are out of the relegation zone with nine points in 12 matches. Speaking after his side’s victory over Newcastle, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said he was happy with the performance of his players.

“I’m obviously happy because we needed these three points but even happier with the performance. The players deserve it. We kept pushing and we deserved it. It was key for us to make them feel like it won’t be an easy game for them and make them feel uncomfortable under pressure. They play quite open and in transitional games, but that is a style that suits us.” Sky Sports quotes Andoni Iraola.

How Bournemouth Beat Newcastle United

Newcastle United came into the match with several first-team players missing, which give Bournemouth the opportunity to dominate the match from kick-off. Ryan Christie and Antoine Semenyo both tested Nick Pope inside two minutes and the hosts continued pushing for an opener despite a warning shot from Sean Longstaff.

Dominic Solanke nearly opened the scoring for Bournemouth after being released by Semenyo but a brilliant intervention from Jamaal Lascelles kept the visitors in the game.

Still feeling the effect of their Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle struggled to play against Bournemouth and made too many individual errors. They were lucky not to concede in the first half, thanks to Nick Pope who made several brilliant saves.

Solanke finally made the breakthrough for Bournemouth in the 60th minute as he fired past Pope at his near post. The 26-year-old forward, who had never scored in his first seven matches against Newcastle, doubled his side’s lead 13 minutes later with an inventive close-range finish from a corner.

Newcastle’s evening was encapsulated when Sean Longstaff stroked his effort harmlessly off target. Nick Pope remained the Magpies’ standout performer until the final whistle as Bournemouth earned a much deserved win that lifted them out of the relegation zone.
