FC Bayern Munich thrashed rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-0 away on Saturday evening in Der Klassiker to deliver a big Bundesliga statement. Bayern hit the ground running immediately after kick-off and went ahead inside four minutes through Dayot Upamecano who scored from a Leroy Sane corner.

Harry Kane then marked his first appearance in Der Klassiker with a hat-trick to help the visitors record their 10th consecutive league win over their old rival. The massive victory banished any fears of a slump in form for Bayern following its shocking DFB-Pokal exit on Wednesday.

The Bavarians are currently second in Bundesliga with 26 points, two behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with both teams having played ten matches. On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund who suffered their first Bundesliga defeat of the season are fourth with 21 points.

How Bayern Munich Beat Borussia Dortmund

Chasing a remarkable 12th consecutive league title, Bayern Munich travelled to Signal-Iduna Park with the aim of collecting all three points. For Dortmund, who blew the chance to win the Bundesliga title last season, this was a game they needed to win to leapfrog Bayern in the table and continue their impressive performance in the league this season.

A mere four minutes into the match, Dayot Upamecano headed home unmarked from Leroy Sane’s right-wing corner kick. The French centre-back, who was returning from injury, lost Nico Schlotterbeck to score his first Bundesliga goal since December 2021.

Bayern then came close to doubling their lead but Kingsley Coman fired his effort wide. Well, it didn’t take long before the visitors had a two-goal lead when they won the ball in their own half. Leon Goretzka fronted a blistering move and then released Leroy Sane who squared the ball to Harry Kane. The former Tottenham Hotspur man made no mistake as he rounded off the textbook counter with a goal in the ninth minute.

Dortmund struggled to get into the match, with Julian Brandt and Marco Reus failing to test Manuel Neuer even when they had opportunity. Bayern Munich almost put things to bed after the break, but Jamal Musiala’s brilliant effort was saved by the goalkeeper. The youngster would later score but his goal was chalked off for offside.

Munich had their third goal in the 73rd minute, with Coman finding the unmarked Kane in the danger area. The England international rounded off his hat-trick in added time to make it 4-0.
