10-man Arsenal beat Burnley 3-1

Arsenal beat Burnley 3-1 on Saturday to move level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City. The Gunners had struggled to break Burnley for much of the first half but eventually opened the scoring before the half time whistle through Leandro Trossard.

Josh Brownhill equalized for the Clarets a few minutes after the break but Arsenal took the lead once again in the 57th minute through William Saliba.

Oleksandr Zinchenko then increased the Gunners’ lead in the 74th minute with a spectacular goal. Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a set back with seven left minutes left to play when Fabio Vieira was sent off, but they held on to secure a comfortable win at the Emirates Stadium.

The victory helped Arsenal increase their unbeaten Premier League home run against a newly-promoted side to 38 matches. Speaking after the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said he was really happy with the performance of his players on the pitch.

“Really happy with the result, especially the performance. After playing 72 hours ago and with the last three games – how we played against Newcastle, against Sevilla and today. How dominant we were against a team that is very difficult to dominate. The amount of situations that we generated I think we fully deserved to win the game.” Sky Sports quotes Mikel Arteta.

How Arsenal Beat Burnley 

Arsenal hosted Burnley looking to avoid making it back-to-back defeats in the Premier League after their defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend. The Gunners had injury doubts over the likes of Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus heading into the match. However, Saka started and Nketiah did take his place on the bench, with the latter two still not fit to play.

On the other hand, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany made no changes to the squad that suffered a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend. Josh Cullen was back on the bench after completing his ban.

Burnley did start the match well, and forced notable action of the game when Zeki Amdouni unleashed a fierce strike which David Raya punched away. Arsenal were struggling to break Burnley’s defense and had their first big chance midway through the first half, but Saka’s strike was tipped onto the bar by James Trafford.

Burnley almost opened the scoring a few minutes later when Johann Berg pounced on Arsenal defensive slip-up, but he failed to convert despite being one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

For the majority of first half, Arsenal bullied Burnley with a torrent of high balls into the box. The crosses paid off before the break when Leandro Trossard nodded in at the far post to score Arsenal’s 1,000th goal at the Emirates Stadium.

Burnley levelled the scores eight minutes into the second half when Josh Brownhill’s shot was deflected into the net by Gabriel. But the Clarets were level for only three minutes as William Saliba headed in from Trossard’s corner.

Zinchenko then completed the scoring for the Gunners with an acrobatic finish in the 74th minute. Despite Fabio Vieira being sent off, Arsenal held on to beat Burnley 3-1 and trail league leaders Manchester City on goal difference.
