Since his early childhood, Tito Ortiz was passionate about wrestling and took a keen interest in it. While in high school, he started pursuing his favorite sport which was wrestling and won the state-level championship.
Ortiz enrolled at Golden West College and joined the wrestling team, winning more championships. He then transferred to California State University, where he continued with his wrestling career but began gravitating more towards mixed martial arts.
In 1997, Tito Ortiz fought in the UFC as an amateur for no prize money or contracts. He gained fame for winning his first fight, which was against Wes Albritton. However, he lost his second match against Guy Mezger.

In 1999, Ortiz challenged Frank Shamrock for the UFC Light Heavyweight title, but lost via submission. Ortiz would gain the title after Shamrock’s retirement and defended it five times in a row.
Ortiz took a one-year hiatus from the UFC and returned at UFC 44 to fight Randy Couture. He lost the fight and then suffered another loss against Chuck Liddel.
In the following years, Ortiz was less enthusiastic about the UFC and went on to become a free agent. On 11 September 2011, the American fighter made his professional boxing debut, losing in the first round to Anderson Silva.
