Kariobangi Sharks players celebrate Julius Masaba's goal
  • Kariobangi Sharks beat Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0
  • Tusker won away to Sofapaka by the same margin
  • The brewers have had a rough start to the season

Tusker FC and Kariobangi Sharks will look to build on from their weekend wins in the FKF Premier League. Sharks moved to fifth in the standings after edging out Kakamega Homeboyz by a solitary goal at the Kasarani Annex while Tusker won by the same margin away to Sofapaka FC in Machakos.

At the Annex, a 94th minute winner from substitute Julius Masaba was all Sharks needed to bounce back to winning ways after two losses and a draw in their last three games.

Sharks showed a mature performance, and they scored a 94th minute winner via Julius Masaba, off a brilliantly executed counter attack.

They defended a corner well and launched some quick change of passes, the ball eventually falling on Geoffrey Onyango’s feet. The left footed wingback slapped in a low cross into the box, missed by a defender and picked up by the waiting Masaba who dumped it into the bottom left corner.

Masaba had just minutes before hit the upright when he picked up another cutback, but this time he could not find the back of the net after dummying past two of his markers.

Homeboyz didn’t create much of scoring danger, save for some two shots from Gospel Okoth which rose over the bar.

After the Homeboyz win, Sharks face a tough run of fixtures over the next week, as they play away to AFC Leopards and Nzoia Sugar, before taking on Bandari FC at home.

“It is a tough run of matches and it will be very key for us to ensure that we recover well because we play away from home in the middle of the week,” said the tactician.

Meanwhile at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Tusker FC relieved pressure on their shoulders with a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka. Substitute James Kibande scored the winner in the 52nd minute to ease the load off coach Robert Matano’s shoulders.

Kibande nodded in with a header just barely a minute after he had come on, making a good run on the backpost to connect to a well weighted cross from fellow substitute Eric Kapaito.

The brewers had some more chances, with Kibande shooting wide from good scoring range while Kapaito also had an opportunity which went begging.

Sofapaka lose good chances

Sofapaka had some good chances as well, with Amos Asembeka and Khaleed Jumaan also missing sitters.

“It is great for us to pick this victory because it would not have been good for us to lose three matches in a row. Now at least we have salvaged our pride and hopefully we move on well from here,” said Robert Matano, who has been under siege at the club after a poor start.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards picked their first win of the season after edging out Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in Bungoma, with Brian Yakhama scoring the solitary goal from a first half penalty.
