Mario Pasalic began playing football at county club NK GOSK Kastel Gomilica in 2003. He then moved to Hajduk Split where he spent the majority of his youth career.
Pasalic first got the attention of the football world during the 2011-12 season when he scored 17 goals despite playing as a midfielder for the under-17s. While playing for the under-19s, Pasalic scored the winner in his team’s 3-2 victory over Hrvatski Dragovoljac to secure the club’s championship trophy.
During the summer of 2013, Pasalic signed a four-year deal with his boyhood club Hajduk. However, his stay at the club lasted for just one season as Chelsea announced that they had signed him the following summer.
