A brace from Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool secure a 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday afternoon.
The Egyptian forward slotted home a penalty in the 75th minute to break the deadlock after Michael Keane was penalised for a handball. He then sealed the win in stoppage time to ensure Liverpool’s recent impressive performance in the Premier League continues.

“It’s a derby, and it will not decide how you end up on the table at the end of the season, but it has an impact like all the other games, but it’s much more tense, there’s a lot more emotion in, so that’s why the relief in this moment is really big.” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said after the match, as per Reuters.
Jurgen Klopp’s side climbed top of the standings on 20 points in the Premier League’s first game of the weekend. However, they lost the spot later in the day after Manchester City secured victory over Brighton. The Reds are now third on the table, just one behind leaders Man City and Arsenal who all have 21 points.
Meanwhile, Everton who finished the game with ten men after Ashley Young was dismissed for a second booking in the 37th minute are sixteenth on the table with seven points after nine matches.
How Liverpool Beat Everton
Jurgen Klopp made four changes to the team that drew at Brighton before the international break. Kostas Tsimikas replaced Andy Robertson with Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota and Ryan Gravenberch also being included in the starting eleven.
On the other hand, Everton manager Sean Dyche decided to stick with the team that secured a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth. The visitors came close to scoring first but Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended up sending his header straight to Alisson Becker.
Mo Salah had a decent chance to score almost immediately but he made a mess of his effort. Liverpool got another opportunity in the opening quarter-hour after defending a Toffees corner but a brilliant challenge from Ashley Young deflected Luis Diaz’s shot over.
The game slowed down afterwards but Everton soon found themselves without Ashley Young after the former England international was shown a second yellow card for a mistimed tackle on Luis Diaz.

Sean Dyche responded with two defensive changes and managed to frustrate Liverpool for the better part of the second half. However, a Michael Keane handball inside the box led to a penalty which Mo Salah brilliantly converted with a quarter-hour remaining.
Liverpool then made the game safe when substitute Darwin Nunez broke free and played a perfectly timed pass to Salah, who calmly slotted home in stoppage time. Everton have recorded just one victory in their last 29 clashes with Liverpool.
