Barely after winning the 2023 US Open Grand Slam at 19, Coco Gauff is receiving a lot of attention that she was recently offered a marriage proposal.

She says that the man who offered to marry her was intrigued by her brilliant performance in New York last month where she won her first title.

Besides the marriage proposal, she recently got a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Zendaya, a renowned American actress.

Gauff says her victory has become such a big deal that she is overwhelmed by the praise messages she is getting.

In hindsight, she doesn’t see anything special she did in Flushing Meadows but the perception out there is amazing.

“I didn’t really do anything that cool after winning the US Open, to be honest. But the messages you get from celebrities are crazy. The coolest thing that happened to me was Zendaya sent me flowers to my house,” she told Tennis Channel in an interview.

“It was like a huge bouquet of flowers. My brother & I struggled to lift it up on the table. I think it weighed at least 50 pounds. It was so heavy. I think that was the coolest thing,” she added.

The American teenager beat Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open finals on September 9 and rose to the top 5 as world No.3.

She credits her success so far in her tennis career to the adoption of Mamba Mentality as propagated by the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant.

Gauff said that her refusal to be complicit and working continuously to become better are the reasons why she keeps getting better.

Moreover, she credited her win in New York to veteran tennis players Serena Williams and her elder sister Venus Williams.

She says that she idolized Serena and her elder sister Venus to the point that she believed in their dream of a Black woman making it to the top of the WTA Tour.

It was a long-held dream since she hit the tennis headlines as a junior player when she was only 15 years old.

Now 19, Gauff played her most significant match to date, facing off against Sabalenka who is an indomitable rival on-court.

[Venus and Serena] are the reason why I have this trophy today, to be honest. They have allowed me to believe in this dream growing up,” she told the press after the match.

Following her victory, Gauff joins a prestigious club as the third American teenager to claim the US Open women’s title.

This is an achievement she dreamt of while idolizing Serena who triumphed for the first time in 1999 as a teenager.
