Arike Ogunbowale was born on March 2, 1997, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Nigerian parents, Gregory and Yolanda Ogunbowale. She has an elder brother by the name of Dare Ogunbowale who is a running back for the Houston Texans.

Her father served as a militant in Nigeria while her mother played softball at DePaul University. Her brother played football at the University of Wisconsin.

The player was inspired by her mother who played softball. Arike attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where she led the girls’ basketball team to the 2011 Tournament of Champions championship and was named the MVP of the tournament.

At Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee, she played high school basketball leading the team to four state championships.

She also became a two-time Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year at the high school. While in high school, she was also a member of the United States U16 and U17 national basketball teams where she won gold medals with both teams.

Arike committed to play college basketball at Notre Dame University and won an NCAA Championship for her team.

After college, she was drafted by the Dallas Wings with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft where she has been a star player for the team ever since.

Arike is a three-time WNBA All-Star and was named the WNBA All-Star Game MVP. She is currently single focused on her career and is so far one of the best players in the WNBA.
