Mamelodi Sundowns came from a goal down to beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 on Wednesday evening at the Lucas Moripe Stadium and set a new South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) record.
The victory saw Sundowns stretch their unbeaten run of matches in the league to 32, the biggest ever in the PSL. This was also their eighth successive victory in the league this season, equalling their best ever start to a campaign.
Goals from Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and teenage star Siyabonga Mabena saw Masandawana carry home the precious victory.
Sundowns found themselves trailing as early as the 14th minute when Devin Titus tapped home a rebounded effort from close range.
But, the home side kept their fight to get back in the game and they did so when Kekana lobbed over the Stellies keeper to level matters.
Five minutes later, Downs had cruise control of the game when Modiba struck home from a freekick, to give his side a 2-1 lead at the break.
Coach Rulani Mokwena rang the changes with Khuliso Mudau and youngster Mabena coming on. Mabena, 16, would put the cherry on the cake with a simple tap in off a Shalulile assist.
Sundowns maintain lead on top
The victory sees Sundowns keep their lead on top of the standings with 24 points, 10 ahead of second placed Golden Arrows who have played a match less.
Meanwhile, Under pressure Kaizer Chiefs earned their third win in eight matches in the PSL after putting up a stellar fight to come from behind and beat Sekhukhune United 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Second half goals by Edson Castillo and Edmilson Dove saw Amakhosi rise from the ashes, after Elias Mokena had given Sekhukhune a lead at the stroke of halftime.
Chiefs came into the match off back to back losses, a 1-0 defeat to Supersports United in the PSL and a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN 8 Cup semis. They were under pressure to get their boat back sailing.
They had a good start into the match against Sekhukhune and had several chances to score, Ashley du Preez seeing his effort saved by the keeper while Castillo also had an effort go wide.

Despite their dominance, Chiefs were stunned at the stroke of halftime when Mokena ran onto a through ball before sliding it past the keeper.
In the second half, Amakhosi were determined to claw back into the game and they did so on the hour mark when Castillo headed home.
Quarter of an hour later they completed the comeback when Dove powerfully headed home from a reeve Frosler cross. The goal had been coming for Chiefs, with George Matlou having come close with a header off the bar.
The victory takes Chiefs up to fifth place in the DStv Premiership standings, with 11 points from eight matches.
