Kenya Police FC have settled on Coratian Zdravko Logarusic as their new head coach, the tactician making a return to the country seven years after he left. Logarusic made his name coaching Gor Mahia in 2012 and 2013, and has also coached their arch rivals AFC Leopards.

While he took Gor inches close to winning the league in 2012 before he left for Tanzania’s Simba in 2013, he won a trophy during his stint with Leopards, the GOtv Shield, now known as the FKF Cup.

The tactician arrived in the country this week and reported straight to training, as he looks to turn the team’s fortunes around quick enough.

“Loga is a tactician of the highest repute in this world. He is known all over, has been here before and we expect he is going to rejuvenate our team. Our season starts now and we are confident that he can steer us to success,” Munga said as he introduced the new coach.

Meanwhile, Logarusic says that his results will talk on the pitch.

“Police FC called me and I know why they called me. I have to do what I have to do and I will do the job. I came prepared and let’s talk with the results on the pitch,” he noted.

The tactician takes over from Francis Baraza, who was appointed last season and led the team to a third place finish in the FKF Premier League. He has been fired, after failing to win the first four matches of the season.

This week, after last weekend’s draw with AFC Leopards, Baraza was asked to step aside, as the club deliberated on his future. They have since made the decision to relieve him of his duties and trust the job with the Croat, who becomes Police FC’s first ever foreign coach.

Salim Babu will retain his position as assistant coach, with Abdul Iddi Salim also said to have left the club. Logarusic had been seen with the club’s leadership last year, just before they fired then coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo.

A lot of work to do

He had been said to have come on an advisory capacity. But now, he returns fully.

He comes into the club with a full tray, Police having not won a match this season. In four games, they have three points from three draws. It was the same case last season when Francis Baraza came in after seven matches, with the team having not won. He managed to quickly turn the tide around and helped Police to become solid.

Logarusic’s first match will be against a fast rising Bidco United at their Police Sacco backyard, and pressure will be on him to make the foreign gamble tick.

One area that will be of concern to him is the forward line, with Police having scored only three goals in four matches, two of them coming off last weekend’s 2-2 draw with AFC. They have failed to score in two games.
