Career
Kasper Schmeichel began playing organized football in Portugal in 2000 at Estoril youth academy. His father was at the time playing for Portuguese giants Sporting CP.
In 2001, Schmeichel joined Oure where he spent a season and then moved to Manchester City’s academy. The young goalkeeper spent four years at the academy before receiving promotion to the senior team in 2006.
At the start of the 2007-08 season, Schmeichel appeared to have made City’s number one shirt his own. However, the emergence of Joe Hart resulted in him being loaned several times. He spent time on loan at Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City and Coventry City before being joining Notts County on a permanent deal in 2009.
Schmeichel’s only season with Notts County turned out to be a success for both club and the player. However, he had to leave at the end of the season due to financial issues.
Schmeichel joined Leeds United in 2010, where he also spent a season before continuing with his career at Leicester City. With the Foxes, he established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in England and won numerous individual awards.
