Career
Jonny Evans began playing football while still young. He was at Greenisland FC when he was scouted by Manchester United. He joined the Red Devils in 2004 and spent just two years with the academy before being promoted to the senior team.
Manchester United loaned Jonny Evans to Royal Antwerp at the start of the 2006-07 season to get more playing time.
In December 2006, he returned to Manchester United and was loaned to Sunderland for the remainder of the 2006-07 season. The young centre-back helped Sunderland win the Championship title and was voted the club’s Youth Player of the Year.
Evans then returned to Manchester United where he struggled for playing time. He rejoined Sunderland on loan in January 2008 and played a key role to help the club avoid relegation.
Jonny Evans made his debut for Manchester United on 26 September 2007 in a 2-0 defeat against Coventry City. He became a regular starter for the Red Devils the following season, and made over 200 appearances during his time with the club.
