Manchester United have signed ACF Fiorentina’s Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan until the end of the season. According to reports, the Red Devils will pay £8.6 million loan fee with an option to make the deal permanent, which would cost £17.1 million, plus £4.2 million in add-ons.
Sofyan Amrabat made his intentions of joining Manchester United clear at the start of this summer transfer window. However, he had to be patient until deadline day to finally join the club of his dreams.

“It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player. I’ve had to be patient for this moment but I’m someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams. I am a passionate player; I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will put everything into every action I take for the team.” Manchester United’s official website quotes Amrabat.
Sofyan Amrabat, who was born in the Netherlands, began his football journey at HSV De Zuidvogels. He then moved to Ultrecht and went through the club’s youth set-up until 2014 when he made his senior debut.
The midfielder spent three seasons playing for Ultrecht and then secured a transfer to Feyenoord. With Feyenoord, he won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield twice before continuing his football journey at Club Brugge.
While with the Belgian side, he was loaned to Hellas Verona where he spent a season. The Morocco international then joined Fiorentina in January 2020. He spent three seasons at La Viola, making 92 league appearances and scoring one goal.
Amrabat played a key role as ACF Fiorentina reached the final of the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League last season. They finished as runner-up in both competitions.
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder got the attention of the football world during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year. His impressive performance helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the tournament. As a result, several top European clubs began showing interest in him.
Amrabat missed both of Fiorentina’s Europa Conference League play-off against Rapid Viena a few days ago because he was preparing to join Manchester United.

Speaking after Amrabat’s arrival, Manchester United Football Director John Murtough said the midfielder’s qualities will help the squad.
“We have tracked Sofyan for a long time, so we are really pleased to bring him to Manchester United. His committed, high-energy approach to the game fits perfectly with the group that we are building here. We know that Sofyan’s mentality, dynamism and technical qualities will help the squad as we look to achieve success in all competitions this season.” John Murtough is quoted by Manchester United’s official website.
