The fourth and last Grand Slam of the season is due from August 28 – September 10 and there are names featuring prominently on ATP which tennis player could win the 2023 US Open.

US Open’s rich history and culture dated back to 1881 when the first tournament was held makes it so prestigious. Moreover, one of its venues, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York City has a special place in the hearts of Americans.

This venue named after tennis legend Billie Jean King is one of the largest and most impressive tennis facilities in the world. It has a capacity of over 23,000 spectators and is surrounded by trees and greenery making it a picturesque and enjoyable setting for a tennis tournament.

Additionally, the ATP tournament has a reputation for fierce competition; it remains one of the most competitive tennis tournaments in the world. Tennis players from around the world compete fiercely in the hunt for a Grand Slam. And since it is the last major tournament of the year, both male and female tennis players give it their all.

With this background, it is logical to wonder who could win the 2023 US Open.  Here are the most probable tennis players to take home a trophy.

CARLOS ALCARAZ

The 20-year-old Spaniard is quickly positioning himself as the heir apparent to Rafael Nadal who is set to retire in 2024 after the French Open. Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer who is now retired inspired Alcaraz to take up tennis as a young boy. With his two Grand Slams, he has what it takes to be the next tennis superstar.

His splendid performance at Wimbledon 2023 where he defeated Djokovic in a thrilling 3-hour, five-set final match lit the optimism candle. It was his first grass-court victory, a win he doubted weeks before the match kicked off. In fact, he fronted Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios as the only other player who can stop Djokovic at SW19.

Moreover, all eyes are on him to win the 2023 US Open since he is a defending champion. Coupled with his performance at Wimbledon, there is no doubt that he falls among the frontrunners – a tennis player likely to win the US Open this year.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

He is the face of tennis and needless to say, Djokovic has a point to prove in New York. This will be the first time he will play at the US Open in a while. He was barred from playing in 2022 due to his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The US Covid regulations required all foreigners entering America to be vaccinated and this locked Djokovic out of the tournament.

A Serbian caucus lodged a petition with US President Joe Biden to have the world No 2 player allowed into the country but it was an exercise in futility. However, US COVID regulations ended in May 2023 meaning he [Djokovic] will definitely be at Flushing Meadows.

It is more of a revenge mission for him, first for the ban and against Alcaraz who denied him a 24th Grand Slam at Wimbledon. This tennis is what makes the 2023 US Open an interesting bet between Djokovic and Alcaraz.

HOLGER RUNE

Former Wimbledon champion Frederik Lochte Nielsen is upbeat that Holger Rune will win the US Open this year. He says that Rune is a formidable player now on the rise. For New York’s frantic hard courts, Nielsen thinks Rune offers the ideal balance of speed and power. His speed lets him take hard hits while moving closer to the net, a tact not many tennis players have.

Further, his serves and returns are epic, notwithstanding that he is an all-rounded player who aces his game on any surface.

The world No.3 is as formidable as his personality. He seeks major victory at Flushing Meadows owing to the fact that he also has a point to prove. Last year was hard on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. He missed out in some tournaments and given the rivalry between Russia and the US, there is a lot at stake.

CASPER RUUD

The Norwegian tennis player is another indomitable persona who could win the 2023 US Open. Despite having never won a major Grand Slam, he sits at world No.5 in ATP ranking. Ruud is a great player to watch at the US Open this year.
