  • Mason Mount is expected to remain out until next month’s international break, the team said on Tuesday.
  • The 24-year-old, who has appeared in both of United’s league matches this season, suffered an injury in last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.
  • The most probable candidate to replace Mount is Christian Eriksen because Scott McTominay appears to be out of favor.

Mason Mount, an English midfielder for Manchester United, will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest due to an injury and is expected to remain out until next month’s international break, the team said on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old, who has appeared in both of United’s league matches this season, suffered an injury in last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur. Erik ten Hag’s team may experience issues as a result of the change because there are now fewer options for him in the middle of the field.

Midfielder Fred has already moved on to Fenerbahce this summer while promising youngster Kobbie Mainoo is now out due to an injury sustained while on the team’s preseason tour of the United States.

Mount won’t be able to play again until after the impending international break in September due to the injury.

The ailment, which was discovered over the weekend, is described as a “slight complaint” in a statement on the club’s website.

The midfielder will thus miss Man United’s league games against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

United’s poor start to the season

Mount has taken on a deeper role alongside Casemiro this season, starting both of United’s Premier League games.

The Red Devils’ early-season struggles have led to some criticism of the £65 million Chelsea transfer, though.

Erik ten Hag’s team was fortunate not to concede in a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and they also benefited from a controversial late penalty ruling.

However, luck was not on their side this past weekend as United suffered a discouraging 2-0 loss against Spurs.

The most probable candidate to replace Mount is Christian Eriksen because Scott McTominay appears to be out of favor and Mount is now expected to miss some time with the team.

That is unless the team can quickly complete a deal to acquire a midfielder before the weekend something that Ten Hag is thought to want very much.

Mount will now likely miss a third consecutive England camp due to injury.

Since the World Cup quarterfinal match against France in December, the 24-year-old English midfielder has not played for his nation.

Mason Mount was not on either team in March or June when England began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with four straight victories and a commanding lead at the top of their group.

In the following weeks, Gareth Southgate will reveal the next lineup in advance of England’s games against Scotland and Ukraine, the latter of which being friendly at Hampden Park.
