Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has extended his contract with Manchester City by one year, keeping him with the team through 2026, according to the club’s announcement. The previous contract with Silva was set to end in 2025.

The 29-year-old voiced his joy over his prolonged stay at City. He was said to be on the radar of teams like Barcelona, Paris St. Germain, and Al-Hilal.

Although Bernardo has been linked to Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Al-Hilal, the Citizens were hesitant to part with the Portuguese star for less than their £75 million asking price.

Originally under contract at the Etihad Stadium through June 2025, Bennardo has opted to devote his future to the triple champions by signing a contract extension through the summer of 2026 after a summer transfer fell through.

Speaking on his contract extension, Silva said, “Extending my time here just seems right. The previous six years have been great. This club is unmatched in its winning attitude and commitment. I’m excited to continue making unforgettable moments with the team and the supporters.

Pep Guardiola, manager of the city, hailed the extension after Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan were recently traded to Al-Ahli Saudi FC and Barcelona, respectively. Silva has been crucial for City under Guardiola, helping the team win all five Premier League championships. His on-field contributions, which included seven goals and eight assists in 55 games last season, helped Manchester City achieve an unprecedented triple.

Since moving from Monaco to Man City in 2017, Bernardo has established himself as an important member of Guardiola’s team, tallying 55 goals and 59 assists in 308 games across all competitions.

The international player from Portugal has a total of 14 championships to his name, and while playing with the Citizens, he was selected for the PFA Team of the Year in 2018–19 and the Champions League Team of the Season in 2022–23.

Laporte set to leave Man City

Aymeric Laporte confirmed that he will leave Manchester City this summer in preparation for a rumored transfer to Al-Nassr.

The 29-year-old defender is said to have reached a three-year contract with the Saudi Arabian team and finished his physical on Wednesday before finalizing his rumored £23m move to the Middle East.

Laporte will leave Manchester City after spending five and a half years at the Etihad Stadium and making 180 appearances in all competitions.

The international player from Spain has amassed 13 trophies in his time with the Citizens, including five Premier League championships, three EFL Cups, two FA Cups, one Champions League, one Community Shield, and one UEFA Super Cup, which he won earlier this month after defeating Sevilla on penalties.
