 Personal Life

Samuel Takyi was born on December 12 2000 in Accra, Ghana to his mother Eunice Smith who works as a fishmonger at the Makola Market and Godfrey Takyi a cloth trade in their locality.

Initially and it is the norm for most young boys in his region, Takyi was so much into football which he played with his friends in the streets with the certainty that he would become a popular footballer.

However, his passion changed to boxing and at eight years he was already a boxer, securing Ghana’s first medal in boxing after twenty-nine years.

Takyi’s biggest dream is to change his family’s social and economic situation and make them happy and comfortable in future.

Samuel is currently single and there is no dating history as he wants to concentrate on his career first.

Career

The young boxer won the featherweight quarter-final 2 against Columbian Southpaw David Ceiber Avila by a split decision at the Tokyo Olympic Games moving into the medal zone.

Takyi rallied from behind to win 3-2 from the judges scoring against his rival. Ceiber won in the first round by a unanimous decision of 5-0 by throwing body shots at Takyi taking advantage of his height.

On the other hand, Takyi had to respond and stop the swarm, doing much better in the second round taking 3-2 and heading to the third round.

Come to round three, the youngster did enough despite Ceiber’s tactics to run down time when the fight wasn’t going his way, to convince the judges that were all he needed.

Takyi however qualified for the semifinal where he faced USA’s Ragan Duke having a shot at Ghana’s first-ever gold medal, Duke eliminated Irish boxer Kurt Walker in his quarterfinal bout.

The boxer won the 2022 Sports Man of The Year at Citi TV’s Entertainment Achievement Awards for 2021. He also won the SWAG sports personality of the Year award.
