Following his victory, Djokovic said that he is always under pressure, especially in Wimbledon where he has a target on his back.
He loves it though because it makes him feel that he is the perfect candidate to bag an eighth victory in England’s SW19. The 35-year-old will equal Roger Federer’s grass-court victories at Wimbledon.
“I mean, I don’t want to sound arrogant, but of course I would consider myself favorite. Judging with the results I had in my career here, previous four occasions of Wimbledon that I won, and reaching other semifinal, so I do consider myself favorite, yes,” he remarked.
His win over Rublev got Djokovic his 46th Grand Slam semifinal, a record previously held by Federer who retired last year.
In terms of tennis stats, victory over Rublev handed Djokovic his 33rd win which is not fr away from only Bjorn Borg who had 41 victories and Federer who had 40 winning streaks.
Further, there is a replay of the quarterfinal from the previous year, Jannik Sinner now standing between Djokovic and the Wimbledon 2023 finals.
Djokovic was all praise for Sinner before the match, saying that he is a young player who is continually developing and that his style of play is perfectly suited for grass courts.
The Australian Open champion indicates that Sinner’s power on the court stems from his point control and game aggression. His serves are also better and more powerful.

Djokovic is excited to meet him in the semi-finals and make his case in defending his Wimbledon victory.
“He’s a very complete player. Now first time in semis of Wimbledon. I’m looking forward to that challenge. We both have two days to recover. I’m sure that he’s going to be very, very motivated to win. On the other hand, I am, too. Let’s see what happens,” Sportskeeda quotes the former world No.1.
He will meet the Italian player on Friday. His fans are anticipating to see if or not he will extend his 2-0 lead on Sinner in previous meetings.
