Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) FC have shaken up their technical bench and unveiled a new group, with immediate former Ulinzi Stars head coach Bernard Mwalala as the head coach. Mwalala, formerly with Nzoia Sugar and Bandari FC, joins the bankers after just one season with military side Ulinzi Stars.
He takes up the place of Zedekiah Otieno, who left the club after four seasons following the conclusion of his contract.
He will be assisted by Elvis Ayany as the Assistant Head Coach, Eric Muranda as the Fitness Trainer, and Samuel Okoth assumes the role of Goalkeeper Trainer. Collins Kyama and Michael Oyando will continue with their roles as the team’s Physiotherapist and Team Manager respectively.
“We are confident that through him, we shall usher in a new era of success for the club with our eyes keen on winning the local league and regional trophies. His vast experience will come in handy in delivering a positive impact on the team’s performance in the various competitions lined up,” said KCB FC Patron Azu Ogola.
Mwalala meanwhile is looking forward to his time with the bankers.
“I am excited by the opportunity, and I am fully committed to building a strong and competitive team that will deliver positive results on the field. I have a plan, we are going for the title next season and beyond,” he said.

The bankers are looking to charge up for the Premier League title, after years of near misses despite huge investment in the team. Their best performance was a second place finish in the 2021-22 season when they lost to Tusker FC by just a point.
Last season was a tough one for the bankers, as they finished fifth and that necessitated the change of guard, with Mwalala coming in for Otieno.
Mwalala himself had a torrid season with military side Ulinzi, which he joined after a small period out following his departure from Bandari FC. Adapting to a new environment proved a difficult outing for Mwalala and despite guiding them to the semis of the FKF Cup, their performance in the league was awry.
The military side has since elevated Vincent Otieno to the position of interim head coach, the same he held last season before Mwalala’s arrival.
For Mwalala, his next ambition is to build a title winning side at KCB, where the club’s bosses have not hidden the fact that they desire the league title this season.
KCB start their campaign on August 26 against Kakamega Homeboyz away from home, with Mwalala looking to have built a formidable side by then.
