Jeff Burton was introduced to go-kart racing at an early age by his father. He competed alongside his brother before later moving up to late model stock cars and late models.
In 1988, Jeff Burton began driving in the Busch Series. He competed in the full season for Busch Series Rookie of the Year the following year driving the No. 12 Burton Autosports Pontiac.
Burton would later move to the FILMAR Racing category, winning his first Winston Cup Series race in 1993. The following year, he was named the NASCAR Rookie of the Year again.
