  • PSG forward Kylian Mbappe has told PSG he does not want to sign a new deal
  • The club does not want to let the France forward leave the club on a free transfer next summer
  • There have been several meetings between the two parties to find a solution

PSG has made it explicitly clear to Kylian Mbappe that they are not willing to let him leave the club for free next summer. The French forward had informed PSG earlier this month that he would not be activating the option for another year on his contract, which means he would be able to leave on a free transfer in the next summer transfer window. This declaration took PSG by surprise as they had expected Mbappe to either sign an extension or allow them to sell him in 2024.

Realizing the precarious situation they are in, PSG now understands that Mbappe could potentially sign a pre-contract agreement with another club as early as January. In light of this development, discussions have taken place between PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Fayza Lamari, who is Mbappe’s mother and agent. Al-Khelaifi made it clear during the meeting that if Mbappe is not willing to sign a new deal, the club will look to sell him this summer.

PSG officials have emphasized to Lamari that they want to avoid a prolonged and contentious situation and prefer a resolution sooner rather than later. They are eager to sell Mbappe quickly to prevent him from leaving the club for nothing. Al-Khelaifi, while acknowledging Mbappe’s decision, wants to ensure an amicable departure without any animosity.

Lamari has relayed the message to her son, and PSG now awaits his response. Reports suggest that PSG is already preparing the terms of the package they would demand in exchange for selling Mbappe, which is rumoured to be around €200 million. However, it remains to be seen if any club would be willing to pay such a significant fee for a player who will be available on a free transfer in just 12 months.

One club that has shown interest in Mbappe is Real Madrid, who made unsuccessful attempts to sign him in 2021. The Spanish club currently has a void to fill in their squad following Karim Benzema’s decision to move to Saudi Arabia. However, the situation has become more complicated with Harry Kane expressing his desire to leave Tottenham, prompting Real Madrid officials to explore all possible options this summer. They have also been closely monitoring the situations of Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
