Early Life

Argentina’s Buenos Aires was the place of Sergio Aguero’s birth on June 2, 1988. He was raised in the capital city’s Villa del Parque neighborhood. He had an early interest in football and started practicing on the streets of his neighborhood at the age of four. At the age of nine, he joined the Independiente youth program, one of the premier teams in Argentina.

At Independiente, Aguero swiftly advanced through the ranks and, at the age of 15, made his first-team debut. During the 2005–06 season, he established himself as the team’s regular starter and contributed to their Clausura tournament victory. Several elite European teams were impressed by his achievements for Independiente, and in 2006 he joined with Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

Beginning in 2003 and lasting until 2006, Aguero’s club career was with the Argentine team Independiente. He subsequently relocated to Europe in 2006 to play for Atletico Madrid, where he soon made a name for himself as one of the greatest young players in the league. Aguero became the club’s all-time greatest scorer in European tournaments at Atletico Madrid after scoring 101 goals in 234 games across all leagues. In addition to leading the competition in goals scored, he assisted the squad in winning the UEFA Europa League in 2010.

The English Premier League’s Manchester City paid £35 million for Aguero’s services in 2011 to join them. In his first game, he scored twice, and by the time his first season was up, he had already established himself as an important player for City.

After joining Manchester City, he proceeded on to become one of the league’s most prolific goal strikers in Premier League history, with 184 goals in 275 games. During his tenure at the club, he assisted the squad in achieving five Premier League championships, one FA Cup, and six League Cups.

Agüero said in May 2021 that he would be departing Manchester City at the conclusion of the current campaign. On May 31, 2021, he then agreed to a two-year contract with Barcelona, however, he was only able to make five matches before being given the news that he had a heart arrhythmia. Due to this, he revealed he would retire on December 15, 2021, capping a 20-year career.

International Career

In an international friendly against Brazil at Emirates Stadium in England, Aguero made his debut for his country. Aguero’s debut goal for Argentina came a year later against Bolivia in a World Cup Qualifying game.

Aguero has participated in a number of significant international competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup, Copa America, and Confederations Cup. He was part of the Argentina side that placed second in the Copa America tournaments in 2015 and 2016, as well as the 2014 World Cup.

In his team’s last Copa América group stage encounter, Aguero made his 100th appearance for Argentina, defeating Bolivia 4-1. In the end, they defeated Peru to win the competition.

He appeared 101 times in all for Argentina, netting 41 goals.
