NBA side the Charlotte Hornets are preparing for a second round of workouts and interviews with Brandon Miller from Alabama and Scoot Henderson from the G League Ignite on Monday. Notably, this session will be attended by the team’s outgoing owner, Michael Jordan. The purpose of these assessments is to evaluate the two prospects who are competing for the number two overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

This will be Jordan’s first opportunity to see the candidates in person, following the San Antonio Spurs’ selection of Victor Wembanyama as the first overall pick. Currently, Miller is considered the frontrunner for the number two spot, but Henderson made a strong impression during his previous workout and meeting with Hornets officials.

Although Jordan recently finalized the sale of his majority stake in the Hornets to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, he will maintain a minority stake and remain involved with the franchise. As the team’s governor and final decision-maker, Jordan will continue to have an influential role until the new ownership group is vetted and approved by the league’s board of governors, a process that is expected to take several weeks.

Both Miller and Henderson, along with their respective camps, have expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of being selected by the Hornets with the second overall pick. This is partly due to the geographical proximity of Charlotte to their homes in the southern United States. Additionally, there is anticipation regarding the team’s future under the expected ownership group, which is anticipated to invest in the team’s development.

Miller, a 6-foot-9 forward, had an impressive season, earning recognition as the SEC Player and Rookie of the Year. On the other hand, Henderson showcased his skills in the G League Ignite, averaging 17.6 points and 6.6 assists per game.

The upcoming workouts and interviews will provide the Hornets with an opportunity to further evaluate both prospects and make an informed decision for the number two pick. With Michael Jordan’s presence, his basketball expertise and experience will undoubtedly play a significant role in the evaluation process. Ultimately, the outcome of this assessment will shape the Hornets’ future and set the course for these talented players as they embark on their NBA careers.
